So I drew an elk tag for Little Mountain (which according to Trav and my dad is excellent). We decided to get the kids up early on opening day and go see what we could find. We got a later start than we had hoped for. On our way out there, on Hwy 191, just as it was barely light enough to see, we saw about 7 bull elk right off the side of the road. They were huge bulls... too bad they weren't in my area . Anyway the pictures don't even do them justice but they were an exciting way to start the day. We then drove to a nice spot where we got out, glassed some hills and started our hike through the trees. We probably ended up walking about 4 miles. The kids did awesome. They remembered to keep their voices low and eyes peeled for elk tracks. There was tons of sign of elk... fresh dooguns (which Trav and Theran thought it was fun to use their fingers to test it's "freshness" haha), elk tracks everywhere and we even found some wallows that the elk had bedding down in. Kids decided to take a little break and lay down in them. We didn't end up seeing any bull elk but we did see deer and antelope. Kids crashed out on the way home. Overall it was a great little adventure.
